Sonny Gray Finalizes $75 Million Deal with St. Louis Cardinals, Bolstering Team’s Starting Rotation

The St. Louis Cardinals have strengthened their starting rotation by successfully striking a deal with free agent pitcher, Sonny Gray. A three-time All-Star with a notable track record, Gray had a stellar performance in 2023, highlighting a productive season with a 2.79 ERA over 32 starts and 181 innings. Confirming the reports, the touchdowns were made by ESPN and other outlets, while CBS Sports HQ’s Jim Bowden revealed that the Cardinals and Gray are finalizing a three-year contract worth $75 million.

Gray, aged 34, was previously a part of the Minnesota Twins for two seasons. The last season saw Gray topping the charts, ending second in the American League Cy Young voting, losing to Gerrit Cole. Remarkably, he is the second starter from the Twins to switch clubs for 2024, following Kenta Maeda. By bringing on board such seasoned, swing-and-miss stuff, the Cardinals are visibly adding more depth and experience to their reformed starting rotation.
