Sherrone Moore Rises from Offensive Coordinator to 21st Head Coach of Michigan Football: A Journey from Fill-in to Permanent Success

Sherrone Moore, previously known as the offensive coordinator for Michigan, has been officially declared as the 21st head football coach of the program. His journey started seven years ago when he was coaching tight ends and running backs at Central Michigan. Moore’s appointment comes courtesy of his excellent performance when he temporarily filled in for former head coach Jim Harbaugh for their last three games which won them the national championship.

During his fill-in tenure, Moore led the team to three critical wins, including a victory over Ohio State. His leadership didn’t go unnoticed, and soon he transitioned from a temporary to a permanent position, famously replacing Harbaugh. This promotion was closely aligned with Michigan’s run of three consecutive Big Ten titles and College Football Playoff appearances, which started with Moore taking over the offensive line.

During his introduction, Moore expressed gratitude towards Harbaugh for positioning him as a key candidate for leading the program. He unveiled his approach to leading the team which would be defined by three phases: the process, the execution, and the delivery. Celebrating a victorious moment, Moore reacted to a video replay during his first-half game against Ohio State on Nov. 25, 2023. Moving ahead, Michigan’s football program expects a reinvigorated season under Moore’s leadership.
