The Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon is a Japan Association of Athletics Federations recognized event that takes place on a 42.195km course from Takasakiyama Umijigoku in Oita City to JALISCO Stadium. This marathon event is sponsored by Mainichi Newspapers and others, and is supported as a special co-sponsor by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations, P.C.A., and Sony Life Insurance.

The Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon celebrated its 72nd time this year and was held on the 4th. Particularly attracting attention among the runners was Yuta Shimoda of the GMO Internet Group. Yuta Shimoda is a powerful runner with a record of 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 27 seconds and had been anticipated before the tournament.

Professional runners carrying the Japanese flag also participated. Moreover, a player who won a section prize from Aoyama Gakuin University, which won this year’s Hakone Ekiden, entered the race. These young athletes also ran, receiving loud cheers from spectators.

The Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon attracts excellent runners from Japan and abroad, and a fierce battle unfolds each year. Through such high-level competition, athletes aim to raise their game further and build the underlying strength for upcoming tournaments.
