The 55th Annual NAACP Image Awards, held on March 16, celebrated the phenomenal works and accomplishments of entertainers and writers of color. Usher gained the spotlight as he was honored with the title of ‘Entertainer of the Year’. Stars such as Damson Idris, Kyla Pratt, and Michelle Buteau, came out in grand style to illuminate one of the most significant events for Black entertainers.

In addition to being named ‘Entertainer of the Year’, Usher was also the recipient of the President’s Award, marking a triumphant night for the singer. Alongside these accolades, captivating performances and tributes took center stage. Keke Palmer stole the show, paying a stylish tribute to a late legend, while others turned heads with their spectacular red carpet appearances.

One such notable attendance was that of Oprah Winfrey, who graced the event in a purple Prada gown adorned with intricate beading., Other significant highlights included a ‘Color Purple’ reunion, and actor Damson Idris teasing his forthcoming movie with Brad Pitt.

The acclaimed film, “The Color Purple”, bagged two NAACP Image Awards: Best Picture and Best Actress for Fantasia Barrino. Barrino, who was also a nominee for ‘Entertainer of the Year’ alongside Colman Domingo, Halle Bailey, and Keke Palmer, gave an award-winning performance. The ceremony, hosted at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, ended on a high note, celebrating and uplifting the works of Black entertainers and creators.
