Partial suspension of NTT Docomo’s smartphone payment service ‘d payment’ affects nationwide – Cause remains unclear even after restoration

NTT Docomo’s smartphone-based QR code payment service, d Pay, has experienced a glitch, making it unusable nationwide. Specifically, the malfunction occurred from around 11 a.m. on November 15, 2023, and the company is investigating and responding to this issue.

D Pay is a core service of Docomo’s financial business, which the company has been focusing on in recent years. Due to its convenience of enabling easy payments using smartphones, it is widely used by many users. However, the convenience for users has been compromised as a result of this glitch causing a partial service interruption.

The company has asked for patience until the issue is resolved. This announcement signifies that a recovery timeline cannot be established within the same day, which has created anxiety amongst users.

Approximately 5 hours after the issue arose, at around 4:20 p.m. on the same day, NTT Docomo announced that the d Pay issue had been resolved. As a result, all d Pay services have been resumed, bringing relief to users who were unable to use the service.

The root cause and further details surrounding this glitch have not yet been clarified. However, there is a demand for problem-solving measures and preventive actions against future reoccurrence. This situation, which has shaken the status quo, brings about close attention towards Docomo’s future movements.
