Titan Tragedy: Tennessee Football Legend, Frank Wycheck, Dies at 52; Family Donates Brain to TBI and CTE Research

Former beloved Tennessee Titans tight end, Frank Wycheck, tragically passed away at the age of 52 following an unfortunate fall at his home. Recognized as one of the most cherished figures in Tennessee history, Wycheck is remembered for his integral role in the “Music City Miracle”. This notorious play, a highlight of the Titans’ 1999 playoff win over the Buffalo Bills, has permanently imprinted Wycheck’s legacy on the sport’s history.

Wycheck’s family has expressed intent to immortalize him beyond his football career. In the wake of this loss, they aim to create an enduring impact by donating his brain to science. They plan to collaborate with experts to further ongoing research into traumatic brain injury (TBI) and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), fulfilling one of Wycheck’s wishes. The family hopes this research will lead to advanced methods of prevention and improved treatment for these conditions often associated with contact sports.

Despite the tragedy, funeral services for Wycheck have not been announced yet. The grief-stricken family, in their statement, conveyed their hope that his passing can contribute to CTE research and potentially, save future athletes from such fate.
