On the evening of the 2nd, a spray was discharged on board the Tokaido Shinkansen ‘Hikari’ train, resulting in an emergency stop at Hamamatsu Station. The incident occurred around 7:15 PM, at which time the ‘Hikari 518’ was en route from Shin-Osaka Station to Tokyo Station.

According to an announcement by JR Tokai, the train made an emergency stop at Hamamatsu Station due to this nuisance act. On board the same train stopped at Hamamatsu station, five passengers complained of discomfort in their eyes and throats, a worrisome situation.

According to a report from the Shizuoka Prefectural Police, these symptoms are believed to have been caused by the ‘discharge of a spray’. According to JR West’s investigation, an internal check was conducted around 7:17 PM on the 2nd, and the Shinkansen train from Shin-Osaka to Tokyo was delayed by about an hour.

Additionally, the spray has been identified as one used for repelling bears, and it is currently believed to have been discharged accidentally. As a result of this incident, there have also been reports of five passengers sustaining minor injuries. The police are currently investigating the details of the incident in order to clarify the facts.
