From the night of the 21st to the 22nd, a series of earthquakes occurred off the eastern coast of Chiba Prefecture. In Chiba Prefecture, a seismic intensity of 2 was recorded four times, and according to the Choshi Meteorological Observatory, the first earthquake occurred at 8:29 pm on the 21st. Then, around 1:12 am on the 22nd, another earthquake with a maximum seismic intensity of 2 was observed in Ibaraki and Chiba Prefectures. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the epicenter of this earthquake was off the east coast of Chiba Prefecture with a depth of about 10km.

Meanwhile, Chinese media reports the death toll from the magnitude 6.2 earthquake that occurred in the Gansu Province of Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture in western China on the night of the 18th has risen to 138 as of the evening of the 21st. The infrastructure such as water and electricity in the area affected by the earthquake, whose epicenter was in the Jishishan County of the same province, has been gradually restored on the 21st.

In Japan, vigilance against the Nankai Trough earthquake has been heightened. It is estimated that up to 6300 buildings will collapse in Kuroshio Town due to the Nankai Trough earthquake, and the establishment of temporary housing in a short period of time is expected by a new agreement. Additionally, according to a survey by the Hiroshima Keizai Doyukai, it has become clear that many local companies are underestimating the damage of a major earthquake.
